Our 4-week advanced obedience training program is designed to take your puppy’s foundational skills to the next level. By the end of this program, your puppy will have mastered more complex commands, increased focus, and learned to respond reliably in real-life situations with greater confidence.
Week 1: Building Focus and Impulse Control
During the first week, we’ll focus on teaching your puppy to stay calm and attentive, even when there are distractions around. This is the foundation for good behavior in busy environments.
- Sit-Stay and Down-Stay with Distractions
We’ll start with basic commands like “Sit” and “Down,” but we’ll challenge your puppy by introducing distractions like toys, food, and even new people. This will help them learn to hold their position no matter what’s going on. - Leave It and Drop It
Puppies are naturally curious, but it’s important that they learn to ignore things that aren’t safe for them. We’ll teach your puppy to leave items they shouldn’t touch and to drop anything they pick up, making walks and playtime safer and easier for you. - Focus on You (Eye Contact Training)
We’ll help your puppy build strong focus by rewarding them for maintaining eye contact with you. This is crucial for getting their attention in distracting environments.
Week 2: Advanced Commands and Precision
In the second week, we’ll build on what we learned in week one, focusing on precision and introducing more advanced commands.
- Heel Command with Focus
We’ll teach your puppy to walk calmly by your side, paying attention to you rather than the environment. This is especially helpful for owners who want more control during walks or in busy areas. - Recall (“Come”) with Distance and Distractions
A reliable recall is a must for any dog. This week, we’ll work on getting your puppy to come to you from a distance, even when they’re distracted by people, other dogs, or interesting smells. - Longer Stay Commands
Your puppy will learn to stay in place for longer periods, both indoors and outdoors, teaching them patience and self-control.
Week 3: Strengthening Obedience in Real-World Scenarios
Now, we start practicing commands in real-life situations. This week is all about making sure your puppy’s training sticks, no matter where they are.
- Public Space Training
We’ll take your puppy to places like parks or pet-friendly stores, gradually increasing the complexity of distractions. They’ll practice commands like “Heel,” “Stay,” and “Leave It” in real-world scenarios, ensuring they remain calm and obedient no matter where you go. - Loose Leash Walking in High-Distraction Areas
By now, your puppy will have the basics of leash walking. We’ll work on refining this skill in areas with heavy foot traffic, other dogs, and environmental distractions. - Advanced Recall (with Safety Drills)
We’ll add safety drills to ensure your puppy’s recall is rock solid in potentially dangerous situations, such as when near traffic or water.
Week 4: Reinforcing and Perfecting Commands
In the final week, we’ll focus on fine-tuning your puppy’s obedience and ensuring they respond immediately to every command.
Refinement of All Skills
We’ll spend time reinforcing all the skills your puppy has learned, focusing on making sure they’re sharp and responsive every time you give a command.
Off-Leash Commands (in Safe Environments)
We’ll begin to practice commands off-leash in controlled, safe areas. This is a crucial step for giving your puppy freedom while still ensuring they stay close and respond to your voice.
Extended Duration Commands
Your puppy will practice staying in a sit or down position for longer durations, preparing them for scenarios where they need to stay calm over extended periods, such as during meals or when guests arrive.
